Nigeria women’s national football team Super Falcons are to play against Gambia over two legs in the second round of the qualifiers for the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations to be hosted by Ghana.
The defending champions of the tournament are among the four teams given the advantage to advance into the second round without playing in the first round of the qualifiers. Others are Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.
Gambia qualified for the second round after beating Burkina Faso on penalties as it ended 3-3 on aggregates.
Falcons have begun preparations ahead the qualifiers and played a friendly against last weekend France weekend, which they lost 8-0. The first leg of the encounter will be played in Gambia on June 4, while the second leg will be played in Nigeria five days after.
The finalists and winner of the third-place game of the 2018 AWCON will qualify for the 2019 FIFA World Cup in France.
