Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has hinted at extending an invitation to Mainz 05 forward Anthony Ujah ahead of Nigeria’s 2019 AFCON qualifier clashes against Libya in October.
In an interview with French outlet Football 365, the German coach says the 27-year-old striker’s form in the Bundesliga has caught his attention, and he is set to hand him a return to the Eagles fold next month.
”We are scouting him, we could remember him for the next games,” Rohr said.
Ujah scored his second goal for the Zero Fivers in just his second game last weekend, coming on as a substitute in both Bundesliga matches.
The forward’s adventurous career has seen him score 91 goals in total with 28 assists to his credit.
He has not been called up to the national team in the past three years with his last appearance coming in Nigeria’s goalless draw with Tanzania in an AFCON qualifier on September 5, 2015.
Should he be eventually invited, he is expected to give competition to Changchun Yatai forward Odion Ighalo for the striker role.
