Akwa United forward Victor Mbaoma believes the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) outfit can turn around their fortunes in the second leg of the first round of this year’s CAF Champions League against Banjul Hawks of Gambia.
Akwa Utd lost 2-1 to the Hawks at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Sunday despite creating many scoring chances enough to win the game.
Mbaoma, who scored the Promise Keepers’ only goal of the first leg, is confident going into the second leg.
“It’s shame we lost the game despite the effort we put in. I believe things would have been different if we had converted the chances we created,” Mbaoma told Complete Sports.
“The fans too are really disappointed but we believe there is still a lot to play for. They beat us here and we can do the same thing to them in Banjul.
“We just have to believe in ourselves and hope luck smiles on us at the end of the game.”
