The Israeli Football Association has denied claims that a supporter who approached Spain forward Isco following a World Cup qualifier was carrying a knife.
Six fans invaded the pitch following Monday’s fixture in Jerusalem. All of those to have entered the field were apprehended by police forces before they could reach the Spanish players and were subsequently arrested.
The home side’s governing body, however, have stated that the reports of a sighting of a knife were false.
“According to all the information we have, there is no evidence or indication that a knife was carried by anyone who ran onto the field,” IFA communications director Shlomi Barzel said. “We do not know yet where these reports have come from, they are false.”
