Europa League final Betting Preview: Chelsea vs Arsenal
The 2019 Europa League final in Baku, Azerbaijan on Wednesday, May 29th will see Arsenal and Chelsea play against each other, in what can only be classed as a season of disappointment for the two teams.
A loss for Arsenal in this encounter will mean they miss out on next 2019/2020 Champions League, whereas Chelsea have already qualified through the Premier League. SportyBet currently have odds of (2.1) on the Gunners lifting the trophy.
Both teams are in relatively good form, even though Arsenal did have an end of season slump, but they go into this game on the back of two very good wins, while Chelsea finished the season in third position in the Premier League after snatching the spot from bitter rivals – Tottenham.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery is a specialist in the Europa League, with three wins in four attempts, while Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has now taken his team to two finals in his first season at Stamford Bridge, even though he’s yet to win any title.
N’Golo Kante missed the second leg of the Eintracht Frankfurt match and was also absent from the goalless draw at Leicester and remains a major doubt for the final.
Antonio Rudiger’s season was ended after going through surgery on his left knee meniscus, with the Germany international set for rehab over the summer. Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek both have Achilles problems and won’t feature.
Juventus bound midfielder Aaron Ramsey will miss out for Arsenal, while Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding and Danny Welbeck all have long-term issues and aren’t expected to feature. Konstantinos Mavropanos is also not likely to play doubt after picking up a knock against Burnley.
Mesut Ozil, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Lucas Torreira are all expected to be fit for the final, despite missing out on the 3-1 victory at Burnley.
The Gunners are currently priced (3.15) as the underdogs on Sportsbetting site – SportyBet, and when you consider they defeated Chelsea 2-0 last time out at the Emirates and beat them the last time these two teams met in a cup final, then the value surely lies with Unai Emery’s team. Chelsea beat Arsenal 3-2 way back in August in an enthralling encounter at Stamford Bridge, so it may well be a tight affair in the capital city of Azerbaijan.
Both of these teams have shown themselves to be a bit dodgy at the back and are jam-packed with attacking talent, so we’re expecting a hugely entertaining game with enough goals.
Chelsea are unbeaten in their 14 UEFA Europa League matches this term, and have odds of (1.67) to win the Europa League trophy for Sarri’s first silverware.
